
Jim Trout, Long Time Member of the Bridgeton Lions Passed Away 04/28/2010
James J. "Pappy" Trout, age 95, a longtime resident of Bridgeton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at South Jersey Healthcare HospiceCare in Bridgeton.
Born in Harrisburg, Pa., on June 4, 1914, he was the son of the late David Thornton Trout and Flora Maus Trout. As a teenager he moved to Tyrone, Pa., and while still in high school joined the Pennsylvania National Guard Cavalry. Jim graduated from Tyrone High School in 1933.
During his early career as a welder, he worked on the Sideling Hill Tunnel, on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the steel mill in Johnstown, Pa., the Philadelphia Naval Yard and various welding shops around Philadelphia.
In April of 1947, Jim and his brother, Howard, founded Bridgeton Welding in Bridgeton, N.J. In 1951, the spring business was added to the welding shop and he became the sole proprietor. In 1961, Jim built and maintained a modified stock car which his son, Bob, raced on east coast tracks for 16 years.
Jim had a passion for service to the Lord and to his community. He was a devoted member of the Berean Baptist Church and was the chaplain of the Bridgeton Lions Club, of which he was a member for more than 30 years. He was active and enjoyed life, especially frequenting the local restaurants with his good buddy, Chuck Corson.
Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Marie Dickson Trout "Nanny"; his brother, Howard; and his beloved granddaughter, Michelle. He is survived by sons, James J. Trout Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Brockton, Mass., Robert E. Trout Sr. and wife, Julia, of Stow Creek Township; and his daughter, Kathleen T. Tuso and her husband, Jack, of Somers Point. PopPop was blessed with seven grandchildren, Cynthia Trout, Linda Leigh Sobran, Devlin Trout, Robert E. Trout Jr., Jana W. Tuso, Joseph J. Tuso, Jack J. Tuso Jr.; and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three nephews, David, Ralph and Ken Trent.
His family will always cherish the memories of his faithful love and devotion to all.
Funeral services will be held at the Berean Baptist Church, 68 Vine St., Bridgeton on Monday, May 3, at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township.
Friends will be received at the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Sunday evening between 6 and 8 p.m., and on Monday morning between 10 and 11 a.m., at the church.
