Cherry Hill & Pennsauken Lions Club Take Visually Impaired Children Holiday Shopping 12/15/2009
On Sunday, December 6th at the Cherry Hill Target Store on Route 38 East, the Cherry Hill and Pennsauken Lions Club took 37 children, who are referred from the NJ Department of the Blind, holiday shopping. The event was sponsored by TD Bank and Dilworth Paxson LLP.
Each child is given funds to get presents for their families and caregivers. The children come prepared with their shopping lists (sometimes in Braille) and are escorted around the store by 40 teen volunteers who come from area high schools (LEO clubs). Many of the children have multiple handicaps. Their gifts are then wrapped and labeled for them by volunteers. This special event, which occurs each year, has created bonds between the teen volunteers and the shoppers returning each year.
