Lindewold Lions Club Aids Local Teen 11/01/2008
Seventeen year old Ryan Compton has Keratoconus which is a progressive disease of the cornea causing swelling and scarring of the cornea and eventually loss of vision. Ryan's disease has reached the stage that in order to see he is required to wear rigid gas permeable contact lenses at a cost of almost $1,500.00 a pair. Due to the progression his disease in the past year and a half he now needs another pair of lenses. The Lindenwold Lions Club presented to Ryan and his mother, Hope, a check for $1,000.00 to help defray this expense that is not covered by insurance. It is only a matter of time before a cornea transplant will be necessary. In keeping with the motto "We Serve", the Lindenwold Lions Club has pledged to assist Ryan with any resources made available through the Lions organization and its "Good Works"
HEAR LINDENWOLD LIONS ROAR
It may be only the end of October, but the Lindenwold Lions Club has already been making some noise in District 16-C. In early September a donation of $150.00 was given to the Lindenwold Leo Club to have our club logo printed on shirts worn in the Leo marathon race.
A $500.00 donation was also given to the local food bank to assist neighborhood needy families faced with the hardship of the current economy.
Our Flea Market held on Saturday, Oct. 11th at Berlin Farmers Mart raised almost $250.00 as a fund raiser. The weather was ideal, the people were friendly and generous and many left with "special treasures".
Our annual "All You Can Eat" Spaghetti Dinner was held on Saturday, Oct 25th at the Lindenwold Senior Center. Despite the very unpleasant weather and the World Series ball game, "Mama Dee's" famous meatballs were, once again, a huge success. Some proceeds of this event will go toward our Holiday Assistance program to the needy in the area.
Lindenwold Lions Club is determined to make a difference.
