Berlin Lions Club Clowing Around for Children 04/13/2009
The Berlin Lions Club current King Lion, Beth Talotta, AKA "Bashful" the clown, interacts with many visitors at a recent health fair, held at the Berlin Community School. The club participated in this event, sponsored by Camden County, to raise awareness of the club and all of the many things that the club does for Berlin Borough and Berlin Township. Nothing like a clown to draw the children into the event!
Berlin Lions have done amblyopia screening at many schools and pre-schools throughout the immediate area for the past several years. During this year and last, the CHIP program has been a large part of the agenda as well.
In the CHIP program, each child in the participating schools, who presents with a signed permission slip, receives at NO CHARGE, a card with his or her height, weight, fingerprints; oral DNA; and CD with the child's still picture as well as a very short interview. This information, if kept by the parents for quick reference, can help to save a child's life in the event that the child might be missing. No other record is kept by anyone else of this information - just the info for the parents. Over 1200 children have been processed in the past two years. There is still one more school to be done this school-Lion year.
