New Jersey Lions MD-16 Parade Uniform

Fellow Lions,
As a member of the MD16 International Convention Committee, and 16-D Chairman, I would like to pass along some important information.
If you have ever been to an International Convention or a USA/Canada Forum, you have probably noticed the unifying color schemes that most States and Provinces wear to identify themselves to each other and to let other Lions know – with pride – where they are from. Pennsylvania, for example, wears green jackets, golf shirts and vests; Indiana wears red; Florida wears Orange jackets, shirts and vests with white pants, and the list goes on and on.
The Immediate Past District Governors of MD16 feel strongly that an identifying color scheme will not only help to identify the Lions of the State of New Jersey to others, as well as to each of us in MD16, but will help to unify all Lions throughout the Multiple District.
It is true…the IPDG's, as the International Convention Committee, must come up with a "Parade Uniform" for NJ, but we thought it would be a good place to begin the unifying process. With no disrespect meant to past committees, this is not a shirt or a tie for the event, but the beginning of a plan to provide an identifying color scheme to New Jersey Multiple District 16.
In choosing a color, we decided to stick with who we are: the Lions of New Jersey, and to use the official New Jersey State colors, which are Royal Blue on a Buff field; for those unfamiliar with color charts, "buff" is a light tan. It is a pleasing color combination, and would be distinctive enough to be an "identifier".
We were of the opinion that a vest would be a better start to this prospective program that a shirt, which would cost almost as much, and could only be worn "casually" and only once during any given event; a vest can be worn over other clothing and can be worn multiple times before washing! Just for clarification, sports jackets were too expensive to begin this potential program.
Now this is where we need your help.
We can say that "Royal Blue on Buff" are the colors of the New Jersey Lions, and we can say that the vest is the "Official Parade Uniform", but in order to make it "official" – all the time – we need to present a Resolution to the Council of Governors, calling for Official colors in NJ MD-16, and that Resolution must pass a vote at the State Convention in May. Without the Resolution, next year's committee, or the committee in any year in the future, can change the color, thus rendering the "Royal Blue on Buff" vest, just another Lions vest, and not the official color or clothing item for the Multiple District.
In order to insure that the Resolution is written, read, and ultimately passed, we must first sell a reasonable amount of vests to the Lions of New Jersey to show that they support this unifying program.
And there we are…
We are recommending a long (hip length) vest, similar in style to the long vests shown in the LCI Supply Catalogue. The vest will be a Poly-Cotton twill, making it wrinkle resistant and easy to clean, while keeping it "smart-looking" (style-wise). As mentioned, the vest will be Buff (light tan) in color, and will have an embroidered logo (not printed or pressed!) on the back in Royal Blue. The logo will be an outline of the State of New Jersey with the words "MD-16" on top and "New Jersey" on the bottom; a reasonable facsimile of the logo is shown above for your information [ to enlarge - click here ]. There will be a Lions logo on the left breast, and for an optional, but minimal, charge each Lion's first name or nickname can be embroidered (in Royal Blue) on the right breast (no substitutions can be made for the "name location"). Please Note: we are using a registered Lion vendor, but in order to keep costs down, we have ordered the Lion logos separately, and will ask that each Lion have the logo sewn on the vest upon receipt.
The vest will cost Thirty-Five Dollars ($35) each for sizes Small, Medium, and Large (S-M-L); larger sizes will cost Forty Dollars ($40), each; larger sizes available are: Extra Large (XL), 2XL, 3XL, and 4XL. Having your name embroidered on the vest is an option; cost for embroidered name: Six Dollars ($6).
As this WILL be the parade uniform, we are asking all Lions planning on attending the International Convention in Minneapolis, MN to purchase a vest. However, as we are trying to make this vest "Official", we are appealing to ALL Lions in Multiple District 16 to purchase a vest, and help unify, as well as identify, our Multiple District. All orders processed by February 27 will allow delivery before the State Convention in May.
